Copy Cat Chic Room Redo | Calm & Cool Bedroom
· Lindsey
Is anyone else having an insane week? I know I can’t be the only one, so I decided to share a room which, upon first glance, instantly takes my anxiety down a few notches. Originally featured in Domino Magazine. The color palette is sophisticated but simple, there’s no extra frills like pillows to pile on the floor before you hop in bed, and the drapes are heavy enough to block out the light when it’s dream time. Sold.

This room also uses a great trick for making a room look more finished—there is a gap of a few inches between where the black paint stops and the ceiling begins. It’s a great way to fake the look of mouldings without any of the hassle (although putting up mouldings yourself is fairly cheap, I won’t pretend it’s a breeze to execute). Another great technique is to use chalkboard paint to get that fabulous matte finish and add a very subtle texture to the room. Getting to draw on it is also a nice bonus. And if you’re so inclined—that dead simple headboard is a prime candidate for a DIY for much less than the one listed below. Grace Bonney can show you how to do a more ornate shape, but the general technique is one of the simplest and cheapest guides I’ve found and making a headboard with square edges will simplify it even further. Plus, if you DIY the headboard, you can always splurge on the duvet 😉
duvet $288
headboard $195
chandelier $160
rug $123
sheet set $65
wall hanging $33
woven mirrors $19/2 for $30
side table $97
lamp $183 (on sale!)
curtains $50
black vase $6
chalkboard paint $10
TOTAL
$1,329
